Rdweb custom rdp settings

Just configured a Win remote desktop standard deployment and am having issues with the RDWeb connectivity. I have had to change the default listening port from to because we have other servers using the default ports. I did that using the following Powershell commands:. When I connect to the from inside the network using an RDP client, everything works as expected.

Users from the various Security Groups get sent to the correct servers. I think it must be something to do with the change of port.

Here is the donwloaded RDP File conntents:. Ummm, I feel like an absolute fool right now, but to hopefully save someone else the same embarrassment in the future I thought I should post the fix.

I had a type in the Powershell commands. I used:. Yes you would need a different box. How did you connect from outside your network - maybe you need to make some kind of port forwarding? Also - which option do you use - "Automatically detect RD Gateway server settings" or custom settings? Thanks for the reply Plamen. I tried your suggestion to Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses, but still the same issue. I'm using Custom settings in the gateway settings. I decided to delete both collections and start again, but it seems I have bigger issues.

For some reason I receive the following error when creating a new collection:. The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". Looks like there must be some corruption somewhere between the domain and domain members. I might start again to make sure there are no issues with any of the machines. What do you think? OK, you can try to verify the trust between the member servers and the domain with the following:.

After that try to add it back to the domain - if it is successful, try to add it to the collection. They get the RDweb site and the collection. This post will not focus on Branding, I will address that in later posts. Update: It turns out the option to remove the necessity to enter the domain name only worked on domain joined machines.

I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. Update: the second post in the series is published, which focuses on customizing the first main page. Read it here. Update: the third and final post in the series is published, which focuses on customizing the second main page. First up is customizing the RD Web Access login page. The default Web Access interface login page looks like this: As you can see, the interface by default expects the user to enter the username in the NT Account format, e.

You can find this post here. So we need to fix two things: the text on the label, and some code to accept only the UPN format.

Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services RDS Installation And Publish RemoteApp

This changed the label text to ask for UPN, or email address. Save the file. Next go to line Change this line into:. Test your adjustments by reloading the page. You will only be able to login with a valid UPN now.

This change is immediate, without the need to restart IIS. Expand the tree on the left and click Pages, then double-click Application Settings and select LocalHelp. Refresh or open the Web Access page and click the Help link: It now shows a new window with the contents of the rap-help.

Distribute Custom RDS 2012 Work Resources (RDP Files) to Remote Users

You can customize this file if you want. The logic for defining the help pages starts on line Change line 87 if you want to use a different file to show your users, and change line 91 if you want to use a different external URL.

Note: these Help entries are specific to the login page. The main page has a Help link as well, but this will be addressed in the next post in this series. This means that you could specify different Help content for the login page if you wish. Go to line Change this line to look like this: And change line to look like this: The result of these two changes should look like this: Making these two changes turns the code to display the link into a comment and thus hidden.

Note: this removes the link from the login and password pages only. Removing or customizing that link will be addressed in the next post in this series. Customizing the security setting session timeouts By default the user is presented with a choice in security settings: The public computer setting session timeout is 20 minutes, and the private computer setting timeout is minutes.

These timeout settings are configurable. Click Edit to change the default value to something you prefer or something that your organization enforces. These changes are immediate, without the need to restart IIS.

We need to fix two thing to be able to force users to the public setting without means to change it. Change lines, and from to These changes will effectively hide the user interface for changing the security setting. Change lines, and from to These changes will effectively hide grey dividers and moves the Sign in button up. For this example I changed the line to: Save the file. And that concludes the post. In the post after that one I will focus on Branding the entire Web Access interface.

Enjoy automating stuff using powershell. In my free time hah! Recently I picked up my Lego addiction again. Any idea? You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account.

These settings are are stored in the registry of the RD Connection Broker s that are part of the Session Collections deployment. Do note that if we wanted to add an additional custom RDP property we would have to specify all the custom RDP properties in one command.

For example if we would add an additional custom RDP property to map the local C: drive and run. We obviously have to add all the custom RDP properties at once.

The command would look like this:. Since the SQL database is the central place to store configuration we would expect the Custom RDP property to also be stored in this database. Inside the table called PoolProperty, there is a CustomRDPSettings but that only contains the setting that is there by default, not our added properties.

There also is a value called CustomRdpSettings inside the table RdpFileInfo, but that table does not seem to hold any records at all.

So as it now seems the properties are only stored inside the registry of the RD Connection Broker. Would our added properties make it to the additional RD Connection Brokers registry? I have tried this in my lab and it seems that this settings does not make it to the newly added RD Connection Broker!

The solution here is to run the PowerShell command again so that the configuration on the 2 RD Connection Broker is in sync again. We can simulate this by disconnecting the network adapter of the 2nd RD Connection Broker and then try to run the PowerShell command again. Which is good! Because this way the RD Connection Broker configuration stays consistent. For example we would be able to publish a Remote App. Just to let you know this command is wrong, it needs to contain -CustomRdpProperty i.

Every part of the solution needs to use public cert. It's this last step that I'd like to fix. It tells RemoteApp what to use for the Session Host server name. How can I set that in ? This is also what you would do for a Session Host farm with round robin. Once I ran this, launching apps from RDWeb would give a single prompt that now matches the three settings without warnings:. Depending on any other Custom RDP Properties, the above command may be different because you have to include them all in one command with a linefeed between each.

I am pretty sure that you need a cert valid for both the internal and external namespace. If you have. If you can't get a cert from a public provider for this, then an internal PKI setup is your only option here.

Update: the third post in the series is published, which focuses on customizing the second main page Connect to a remote PC. Read it here. The main page is actually made up of two pages. The first page is the page that shows you the published Desktops and RemoteApp programs.

By default it looks like this: I published several RemoteApps and arranged them into a folder structure. Customizing the Web Access navigation bar The navigation bar presents the user with different screens in the main page.

The navigation bar is defined as two navigation bars actually. Navigation bar [1] contains the tabs. Navigation bar [2] shows a Help link, and a Sign out link. The Help link will be covered later.

Expand the tree on the left and click Pages, then double-click Application Settings and select ShowDesktops. This change is immediate, without the need to restart IIS. Adding an extra tab on the Web Access navigation bar So, we can remove a tab. Can we add another tab?

Subscribe to RSS

The tab definitions are embedded in the Web Access pages, so we need to customize each page that is accessible through the tabs. Adding this line tells the code what name to display on the tab. This change adds a piece of code that defines the extra tab. Save the file. You can download this template here if you wish and build your own custom pages from that.

We now have a Custom Tab tab on the navigation bar. You can switch this to a local file, which is located on your RD Web Access server.

After changing this setting the help popup window shows the contents of the rap-help. You can customize this file if you want or your can edit the page to point to a different local file or link. Of course, save your changes. Note: these Help entries are specific to the main page. The login page has a Help link as well and this was addressed in the first post in this series. This means that you could specify different Help content for the login page and the main page if you wish.

Go to line Change this line to look like this: Change line to look like this: Change line to look like this: And change line to look like this: The result of these two changes should look like this: This piece of code shows line to and reflects the changes that need to be made.
